A door that suddenly becomes hard to open, drags across the floor, or no longer latches is telling you that something changed. The change may be limited to the hinges, door, or frame. It may also involve moisture, the floor below the opening, or movement in the surrounding wall and structure. The useful first step is not to trim the door. It is to find where the fit changed and decide whether the problem stops at the opening or continues into the building around it.

Note whether the door catches at the top corner, rubs along the latch side, drags at the floor, or moves freely but misses the strike plate. The location of the contact does not prove the cause. It does give you a useful starting point and a way to tell whether an adjustment actually corrects the problem or only moves it somewhere else.

Sanding, planing, or cutting material from the door may make it close today. It may also erase the contact pattern and leave an excessive gap later if the condition was temporary.
Before altering the slab, photograph the reveal on all four sides, the exact place it contacts the frame or floor, and the position of the latch against the strike plate. If an adjustment is made, record what changed so the result can be evaluated instead of guessed.

When water around the building may be influencing the support or wall conditions, foundation, drainage, and waterproofing work should be considered in the context of the whole pathway rather than as a generic answer.
A short record helps separate a one-time hardware issue from a building condition that is changing. It also gives the person inspecting the property something more useful than the statement that the door sometimes sticks.
A localized adjustment may be appropriate when the evidence points to a clear, limited condition such as loose hardware, a displaced strike plate, damaged weatherstripping, paint buildup, or inadequate installation clearance.
The repair should match the condition found. Tightening a hinge is different from correcting a warped jamb. Moving a strike plate is different from repairing moisture-damaged material. Trimming a door is different from correcting movement below the opening.
A broader evaluation makes sense when several openings change, the frame appears out of square, the nearby floor has changed, cracks or separated trim are developing, moisture evidence is present, or repeated adjustments do not hold.
The goal is not to attach a frightening label to the symptom. It is to identify what moved, why the clearances changed, whether the condition is isolated or connected to other parts of the building, and what work should happen first.
The answer is not always to repair the foundation, and it is not always to trim the door. The right repair may involve hardware, the door or frame, windows and doors, finish carpentry, moisture correction, flooring, framing, drainage, or structural support. The scope should follow the condition that can actually be documented.
